Seven extraordinary and diverse bands came together to raise money for music, art and drama instruction for visually impaired children in Texas on Saturday, on April 23, 2005, from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm. The benefit concert took place at Threadgill's World Headquarters, 310 W. Riverside Drive, Austin, Texas.
Headlining the evening program were two exciting and popular Austin-based bands. Vallejo, with their Latin rock sound and high-energy performance, followed by the amazing acoustic grooves from the all-star line-up of The Resentments.
The afternoon's musical and entertainment offerings included a program of local bands, each with its own music style:
- Karen Poston and the Crystal Pistols (hardcore country mixed with Southern rock)
- Carl Smith and the E.C.F.A.Trio (jazz and blues)
- Bigamy Sisters (alternative rock)
- River City Jazz Group (jazz classics)
- The Bishop Elect (pop rock)
- Sensei Strange (magician)
- Silence Gribbie (storyteller with song)
Morning activities from 11:00 to 1:00 were aimed at children and included a magician, a storyteller, fun and games, as well as face painting and balloon animals.
THANKS to all those who provided sponsorship money and those who attended this wonderful Hands-On Music Spring Festival.
